2003 heralds the return to Singapore of the Italian Film Festival, after an 8-year absence.
The festival will showcase the work of several talented Italian contemporary filmmakers, with a special emphasis on young, upcoming directors. After a long lull in the Eighties, Italian cinema is currently undergoing a renaissance, largely thanks to the work of ambitious and far-sighted producers who are revitalizing the industry. The festival’s organizers wish to acknowledge the work of these new creative talents, and have selected a programme that is a tribute to their efforts.
This festival would not have been possible without the generous contribution of our sponsors, to whom we send our most heartfelt thanks. We are also grateful to the Italian Institute of Culture for endorsing and supporting this initiative since its inception. A very special word of thanks goes to Kenneth Tan and the Singapore Film Society, who have co-organized the event with great enthusiasm, and an endless supply of good advice and patience.
We also would like to express our gratitude to the friends without whom there might have been no festival: Marijohn Sampson, whose fundraising and organizational skill were a lifeline for this project; Chan Chee Kin, whose talent withstood our criticisms to produce a smashing logo and brochure; Michelle Parks, of Bamboo Communications, our PR Queen, for letting the world know about our festival; and Kelvin Ng for designing the festival’s webpage. A big GRAZIE to all those who, in one way or another, helped us and supported us: Steven Shalowitz, Mee Din Cheong, Albano Daminato, Fauziah M.P., Eric Chan.
